We adopted a new Labrador, who we named Rooney after England's striker Wayne Rooney who better do a great job in the World Cup. We got him from a rescue in North Jersey. His tale is sad - he's been bouncing up and down the East Coast and was recently in a kill pound in Georgia, but was brought up here where, apparently, people are more rescue minded than the South. He's a big boy, about four years old, completely mellow in temperament and in need of a confidence boost. We love him already!!!

We had a wonderful week in the villa we rented with our friends in Cotignac, Provence. Some pictures follow. I can't really focus on the trip until I've had to time to process losing Henry. This house is so quiet and I am so so sad as is Chris.

We had to say goodbye this morning to our sweet, wonderful, loving dog Henry. My sister Gina, who is amazing, was taking care of him while we were in France, and he really deteriorated while we were away. Gina was kind, loving and absolutely wonderful to him during a very trying time. She deserves kudos. Our vet agreed that  he wasn't going to improve and that letting him go was the most humane thing possible.

Henry was special to all who knew him, blessed with an inordinately good disposition and we'll miss him always.
