I woke up with a godawful hangover from drinking way too many gin and tonics at the party last night. We had a really nice time. The party was excellent with good food, booze, live music, a very congenial crowd and a beautiful evening in a gorgeous setting. I love having Chris as my partner at these things. He goes in one direction and I go in another and I don't have to worry about him at all because he can hold his own in any situation. Everyone really likes him too which makes me feel good. He's brought me a lot of happiness which instantly makes folks love him, but he's funny and quick witted and people enjoy being in his company. I know I do!

The hangover disappeared fairly quickly and we had another enjoyable morning while drinking coffee and poring over the papers on the porch. Then I got on the horn with Lynn and got her to accompany me to yet another garden center, one which was recommended by a gal I had chatted with at the party. This place, Popes' Gardens, was simply amazing. They had more varieties of things than I have ever seen in one place in my life. And they were lovely people with dogs, cats and a pygmy goat wandering about. I'll be going back there this week.

Tonight we're meeting up with Mike, Lisa, Melissa, Bill and maybe Matt at Fuji to celebrate Mike's birthday. Happy Birthday Mike, we love you!

Afterwards, we're heading to Lisa and Mike's to watch the last ever Sopranos, which has been topic number one in South Jersey conversations all week! Everyone has a theory - it's hilarious.

I have had the best Satur day in a long time. Chris and I got up early and had our coffee while reading the papers on our front porch. There was a nice breeze blowing and it was really pleasant. Then we took Rooney for a long walk in Pennypacker Park, where he jumped in the water three or four times. After that, we went to Jo's for a quick sausage sandwich she made us - delicious.

Then Catherine and I headed to the best garden shop ever - a new find from John Baliski - and bought up a storm. I came home and put in eleven plants - mostly hostas.

Now Chris and I are headed to a party being thrown by one of my favorite people in Haddonfield. Ought to be interesting - she and her husband split up and are living separately but are entertaining as a couple!

It's been absolutely beautiful here. I've been spending a lot of time making our front porch look warm and inviting and I think for the most part I have succeeded. I love to sit out there with a book or my knitting and a glass of wine. Rooney loves it too!

Below is the front view of our house. It's great to just chill out and watch people wander by.

Our next door neighbors just had some big old nuisance trees removed which gave us a lot more sunlight on the side of our house so I took full advantage and put some hanging flower baskets and perennials in.

I am so uninterested in updating this thing, but it's been going for three years so I guess I should make a decision one way or the other and stick with it.

We had a great week in Barcelona - and then a week at home followed by almost three amazing weeks in the UK and Scotland with Joanna. It was a fantastic time away from which our finances will take months to recover....

Everything else is fairly good. Getting lots of planting done, which is satisfyingly hard work. Am happy to be home manning my own stove. Restaurant meals, while being lots of fun and delicious at times, can get tedious. It's nice to back at it myself. Am making steamed Thai mussels tonight. Will follow through with a recipe tomorrow if they are any good.

Ta Ta for now. Watch this space.
